Online tutors: FAQ

It depends on the language. Across the 11 languages we track, the median 60-minute lesson ranges from $16 for Arabic to $24 for German.

Tusclases / FindTutors lists the most tutors in our directory (35,415), followed by italki (22,952).

italki, Preply, AmazingTalker and Verbling are marketplaces: each tutor sets a price per lesson and you pay lesson by lesson. Cambly, Engoo and NativeCamp are subscriptions: a fixed monthly price for short lessons with available tutors.

No. SpeakDuo is an independent comparison: you book and pay on the tutor's marketplace. We're building our own 1:1 lessons with hand-picked teachers; join the waitlist to be the first to know.

We read the public profile of every tutor listed on the marketplaces we cover and refresh it daily. Prices are converted to US dollars at European Central Bank rates and normalised to a 60-minute lesson. Platforms can't pay to rank higher.

How we collect this data

We collect public profile facts (name, photo, languages, price, rating) from tutoring marketplaces and refresh them daily. Prices are normalised to a 60-minute lesson in US dollars. Ratings and reviews belong to each marketplace. Subscription platforms have no per-tutor price.
